GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS
GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR ATTENDING THE TOUR OF THE CONIL TUNA TRAP AND WATCHING A BLUEFIN TUNA FISHING EXPERIENCE
PLEASE READ THIS DOCUMENT CAREFULLY BEFORE MAKING YOUR BOOKING.
On this bluefin tuna fishing trip with the Almadraba de Conil, we will set sail from the fishing port of Conil, where our trimaran “Golah” (registration number 6º CA-5-2-24) is moored.
The tour of the Conil tuna trap is organised by ‘GOLAH CONIL, a company authorised to conduct guided tours of the Conil de la Frontera tuna trap’
Once we have received your booking, we will contact you to let you know the time we will be setting out on the trip, which will always depend on the tide times on that particular day, as this is when the ‘La Levantá’ bluefin tuna fishing operation using the Almadraba method usually takes place. We will also take into account weather conditions and other factors to ensure that the bluefin tuna fishing operation can proceed as normal.
If, before the tour begins, the Almadraba decides not to carry out La Levantá on that day, or if adverse weather conditions—such as rough seas or strong winds in the area—make it difficult or impossible to visit the Almadraba, an alternative date to the one selected will be proposed. However, if the customer decides not to change the booked date, either because they are unable to attend on any other day or for any other reason, a full refund will be issued for the amount paid by the customer for the visit to the Almadraba.
Similarly, in order to go on the tour of the Almadraba to see La Levantá, a minimum of five people must have booked. Therefore, if there are not at least five people on the selected date, customers will be offered an alternative date or a full refund of the booking fee paid for the Almadraba tour (for operational reasons).
The boat will depart from the fishing port of Conil, usually in the morning, with the time slot being from 06:30 to 11:30. Customers will be informed, at least 24 hours before the trip, of the exact time they must arrive at the meeting point (Conil fishing port) to take the Almadraba trip.
The duration of the trip will depend on the time taken by the fishermen to carry out the necessary manoeuvres for catching these tuna, which may vary depending on sea conditions, the tides or the behaviour of the tuna themselves, which may refuse to move from one compartment to another until they reach the net, where the catch is made.
We will therefore remain here until ‘La Levantá’ can finally take place and customers can see these magnificent bluefin tuna, thereby ensuring that their experience is a complete success.
The usual journey time is approximately 20 minutes, starting from the fishing port of Conil and heading to the Almadraba de Conil.
We will then remain there for the duration of the manoeuvres required by the almadraba fishermen to move the tuna from one compartment to another within this network of nets that forms the almadraba, until all the tuna are enclosed in the ‘copo’, which is where ‘La Levantá’ takes place
Next, the “La Levantá” manoeuvre would begin, which is when the fishermen start “hauling” the net so that the tuna rise to the surface.
It is at this moment that we can see the great commotion caused on the water’s surface by these large fish, and it is here that the almadraba divers, using a slaughter method known as ‘LUPARA’, slaughter each tuna one by one, ensuring that the fish suffer no pain and thus achieving the highest quality – a crucial factor in why it is considered one of the most exquisite and prized delicacies of the sea.
Finally, each bluefin tuna will be hoisted out of the water using cranes and carefully placed on the decks of the barges, until the day’s quota has been met.
Once the fishing is complete, and as the boats begin their return to port, we will bring our visit to the bluefin tuna trap fishing season to a close, at which point we will return to the port of Conil.
So, provided everything goes smoothly and there are no delays, the total journey time is usually between 2 and 4 hours.
However, if, in addition to the trip to see the ‘La Levantá’ at the Almadraba, the customer has also booked a trip to Barbate harbour to watch the unloading of these tuna, then once we have moored at Conil fishing harbour, the skipper will accompany you and guide you to Barbate harbour, so each customer must travel in their own car or by their own means of transport, always following the skipper of our boat.
Once at the port of Barbate, you will be able to watch the unloading of these tuna from the quayside. There, we will explain the entire process of ‘Ronqueo’ and the preservation of bluefin tuna caught using the almadraba method, from its capture at sea to its deep-freezing at -60°C, which guarantees the highest quality and freshness, making it one of the finest delicacies from our seas.

CONFIRMATION OF BOOKING:
You can make a booking directly on the website www.golah.es, where you will need to select the date and number of people. You can also contact us via the contact form or by sending an email to golahconil@gmail.com or by calling 621 18 21 85
GOLAH CONIL has published the available dates for the trip to the almadraba on its website.
We recommend staying in the area for at least 3 days from your chosen or booked date in order to complete the trip to the almadraba.
We will let you know as soon as possible (within 24 hours of the start of the Almadraba tour) the time selected for the tour, based on the forecast for the ‘La Levantá’ bluefin tuna catch, which varies depending on the daily tides.
We will also let you know whether or not the trip will go ahead, depending on the weather conditions, to ensure the best possible wave and wind conditions in the area, so that you can enjoy the experience to the full.
If, due to weather conditions or because the tuna trap season has come to an end following the exhaustion of the allocated fishing quota, the customer is unable to visit the tuna trap, the full amount paid will be refunded.
If the customer is offered a 3-day window to visit the almadraba and, for reasons beyond GOLAH CONIL’s control, the customer declines to do so, once the almadraba fishing season has ended, the customer will forfeit any right to a refund of the amount paid.
We recommend booking your visit to the almadraba as soon as possible, as the season is short and strictly governed by the allocated fishing quota.
If the customer pays the deposit required to confirm the booking, it is understood that the customer acknowledges and accepts all the terms and conditions for taking part in the visit to the Conil tuna trap and observing a bluefin tuna fishing trip.
No booking will be confirmed unless the required amounts have been paid to GOLAH CONIL.
If, for any reason, a date and time are agreed with the customer for a visit to the almadraba, and the customer fails to attend at the agreed time and place, the customer will forfeit all rights to a refund of the amounts paid, as well as any rights associated with their booking.
Once we are inside the facilities at the almadraba, we will strictly follow all instructions given to us by the almadraba crew and, of course, by the captain of the almadraba, who is the highest authority.
If, for any reason, the instructions given by the staff at the trap, the captain or the crew of our vessel are not followed, the skipper may decide to bring the visit to the tuna trap fishing trip to an end, in which case we will immediately set sail back to port, and those responsible will be solely liable for their actions on board.
This booking includes a visit to the Conil tuna trap to watch “La Levantá”; therefore, the price does not include watching the unloading of the tuna at Barbate harbour, nor will you see any tuna “Ronqueo”.
To extend your booking and watch the tuna being unloaded at Barbate harbour, please book or enquire by email golahconil@gmail.com or by calling 621 18 21 85
If any customers are interested in watching and taking part in a “Ronqueo” (slicing) of bluefin tuna caught using the almadraba method, please let us know and we will arrange it with the local restaurants or companies that organise these events. Some of them offer the chance to sample the freshly sliced tuna, with drinks included at certain venues.
